Jusqu\u2019aux ann\u00e9es 1880, le bourg de Saint-Rapha\u00ebl pr\u00e9sente une physionomie traditionnelle, avec deux quartiers principaux : \u2022 Le \u00ab village \u00bb constitu\u00e9 de vieilles maisons blotties autour de l\u2019\u00e9glise paroissiale \u2022 \u00ab la marine \u00bb, quartier du port occup\u00e9 par les p\u00eacheurs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Avec l\u2019arriv\u00e9e d\u2019un maire dynamique, F\u00e9lix Martin (1878-1894), Saint-Rapha\u00ebl se transforme rapidement et s\u2019\u00e9tend vers le plateau du Veillat, jusqu\u2019alors simple terrain inoccup\u00e9. Apr\u00e8s l\u2019assainissement de la ville et l\u2019apport de l\u2019eau courante, les \u00e9difices publics se construisent \u00e0 un rythme acc\u00e9l\u00e9r\u00e9, en particulier l\u2019Eglise Notre-Dame de la Victoire, Le Casino, l\u2019H\u00f4pital Hospice et les Bains Lambert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ce d\u00e9veloppement s\u2019accompagne \u00e9videmment d\u2019un essor immobilier important dans les quartiers proches avec l\u2019installation de nombreux lyonnais (relations de F\u00e9lix Martin), parisiens et anglais, ces derniers pl\u00e9biscitant d\u00e9j\u00e0 la C\u00f4te d\u2019Azur depuis de longues ann\u00e9es pour la douceur de ses rivages en hiver. Ces diff\u00e9rentes origines vont engendrer des styles de villas \u00e9clectiques dont les 3 principaux sont : le style palladien, le style anglo-normand et le style mauresque.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
